This small triangle shed is almost entirely built out of recycled materials that were given to me for free! Fun to build it fits snugly in the corner of my small garden and makes a wonderful feature as well as being a very useful store!
Having pulled out a small Victorian door out of a skip some 10 years ago I had the idea of building a shed with some period charm. Like all great plans it wasn't though until last summer that I eventually got round to building it! Unfortunately the door which had been stored in the garden since acquiring it was now in a very sorry date, it was literally dropping to pieces but I was determined to repair and use it! Apart from some new timbers for the framing of the shed the rest of the recycled materials came from family, friends and neighbours who otherwise would have thrown them away. It was not unusual for me to come home from work to find a few more recycled materials on my driveway that someone had dropped off! Other materials have been rescued from skips - old fence posts were used to construct the floor and the front, old sash windows that were being skipped were cut down to form the windows and provide glazing for the door, a bed frame pulled out of a skip was adapted to form a finial, the roof tiles came from a house that was being re-roofed. The timber used to brace the roof once formed a neighbour's bathroom floor! Altogether I spent around £40! Yes there were a few head scratching moments when constructing and tiling a hipped roof on a triangle structure but altogether its been a real fun and social project - even one of my neighbours kept me supplied with tea and cake as I constructed it! With a little imagination and inspiration it just shows what you can achieve from other peoples rubbish!
