This is the space where Bernard Shaw created many of his masterpieces.It has a day bed and a typewriter and a few knickknacks. It provided the solitude he wanted in order to do his work - writing.Here he wrote Man and Superman, currently enjoying success at The National Theatre, over a hundred years after it was written; St Joan which won him the Nobel Prize and the screen play for the film of Pygmalion for which he was awarded an OSCAR.Shaw entertained some famous visitors in his hut - Stuart Grainger and Vivien Leigh.
Shaw's ashes are scattered around it.
It revolves so it can catch the sun. Its windows are fitted with Vitaglass - a special kind of healthy glass that lets the suns beneficial ultraviolet rays through.
