This is a detached timber building (Cabin) at the end of a rural garden. Insulated and double glazed and heated by a wood burner, it comprises of a lounge area which houses a small museum in the style of a Victorian "Cabinet of Curiosities", a sleeping loft with double mattress, and a bed settee in the lounge. There is an office area with a desk, wired internet, DVD player/ projector with surround sound system. There is a sauna and (in season) an adjacent outdoor pool. There are no cooking or bathroom facilities in the cabin but there is an "outside toilet" and wash basin (cold water only) in a building about 100 yards away - guests are given directions and a lantern when they arrive! Some of the museum exhibits are a bit gruesome and scary ( they include such things as a grave robbed Victorian skull, a trunk purported to have contained the remains of a murder victim and a feejee mermaid etc.) as well as less scary artefacts such as a rare Oliver typewriter, gramophone, clocks, a magic lantern and such like.
I built this shed a few years ago from scratch with the help of a friend who is a buildings surveyor (to ensure it met building regulations) and a couple of other friends who were much stronger than him (and therefore much more help during the construction). The shed took about 18 months to build. The project started as I had a collection of "interesting stuff" stored in my workshop which was not ideal, then a friend gave me a sauna heater so I decided to build a sauna, the project then grew to include a "lounge" where I could display my "exhibits", an office area for me to write my murder mysteries .. (see www.todieformysteries.co.uk for details) and write my novella ("Open Verdict" - published on Lulu under the nom- de-plume of John Swimmer) and a sleeping loft for friends to sleep in when visiting. The wood for the sauna was personally collected by me from Estonia in an overland driving trip that also involved delivering a sofa to a flat in Parnu (sleeping in a hammock on the way) The shed is on airbnb with the same title and is available for hire.
