I wanted to have a place where I could enjoy a pint and listen to the radio in the peace of an evening. I had salvaged a number of items from the skip (with permission) of a pub being closed many years ago and decided I could put them to good use to create an authentic pub atmosphere. This unique space has been created completely for FREE. However, The Privy is not the biggest space measuring just 170cm deep x 115cm wide x 183cm high but that is the charm and ultimate surprise when anyone opens the door. It is big enough for two adults although in the summer we sit in the pub garden. (See sign photo) Best of all, the clock is set at 17:31 to signify It's always opening time in The Privy!
Having considered building a new shed to accommodate my desire to have a garden pub, I decided to convert the original Privy outhouse into the pub as it has original charm and set rules for me to make the best use of the available space. After stripping out the original sanitary ware, the bar and shelving were made from reclaimed timber and I wanted to incorporate some of the original Privyfitments. All the pub fittings were salvaged from a closing pub including the outside lamp. Pictures say a thousand words please see the photos.
