Following the closure of our only village pub in Goxhill, North Lincs our local darts team decided we needed somewhere to practice and have a pint so we got together and between us we built 'The Tavern' in my garden. It has been built using reclaimed/recycled/donated materials and has come in at a cost of less than £1000.
It has a fully functiong bar serving keg beers/ciders, pool table, 2 dartboards, jukebox, toilet and a fantastic inglenook fireplace which makes it most welcoming in the dark winter months.
The Tavern has proved to be a real hit with local friends and relatives with us regularly having events, games nights etc. It has proved to be an invaluable asset to us following the demise of our beloved local. The atmospere in the Tavern is as good if not better than a real pub!
With the very hard work of the local villagers there has been a long fight to save the pub from property developers. They have done this by raising money to purchase 'The Brock' and have raised enough money to purchase the building and create a community owned pub. The progress has been covered by local press and there is a page on Facebook on Friends-of-the-Brock page. The fight continues....
The Tavern was created by a bunch of mates who had nowhere to practice their hobby but has turned into a place thats used for all occasions, we've had hen do's, engagement parties and even got a wedding party coming up this summer! Even though it will be great to see our local reopen I'm sure The Tavern will still be the place to be!
