Cosy fun bar. Bar & sofa made from pallets. I used old garden cushions to make the pallet sofa comfy, padding it out with beach /holiday themed cushions. I created Bettys beach bar when we moved into our house in the summer of 2015 this wood/concrete building was at the bottom of the garden. It was dark & forlorn. It seemed a waste to use it to store garden furniture. Inspired by shed of the year , which we had discovered that year I decided to create the beach bar. Its great for an evening with friends & also a great hide away if you want a quiet read! I started by brightening up the outside by changing it from its uninspiring light green to Cuprinol beach blue. I had very little budget so made use of donated pallets & anything else I could upcycle. I white washed the walls & ceiling. I used grey concrete paint on the floor, which was previously red & then silver metal paint for the rafters. This made it lovely , light & airy. I painted the bar using up tester pots of paint that I had. There was no electricity initially, so lighting was from fairy lights & candles. The addition of electricity means I can now use it all year round. But I still prefer the fairy lights! The inside is furnished with memories from holidays & charity shop wares! Surrounded by shingles its more Brighton beach than Bournemouth! Its grand opening with my best friends was June 2016!
The outside seating area was a slightly later addition in summer 2017 made using cinder blocks leftover from another project & timber. I made a little table by painting & upturning a ceramic pot & saucer base. The bar is named Betty after my love of Betty Boop! The whole project was under £500.
