    Shed Features

This shed is home to Black Shed Ceramics, my small garden ceramic studio. It has been built from materials that were heading for the skip. From concept to completion the project took over a year, giving us time to source materials and adapt the project to suit. The project is designed by friends at Grey Griffiths Architects, they came up with clever solutions to make sure that the shed nestled into the garden and they made best use of high-quality off-cut materials. We reached out to manufacturers and local building sites to find building materials and products, without their help the project wouldn't be possible.

The shed is built around a mature apple tree which gives the space two distinct internal areas. One section includes soft seating and a home-made desk, which sits in front of an over-sized window so I can look onto the garden and apple tree. The larger area is used for making ceramics, it houses my kiln, wheel and equipment. The garden's depth is revealed with a set-back storage unit which can be reached through a hidden side door.

I love my shed. It shows what can be achieved with a bit of resourcefulness and some inventive design. It has allowed me to focus on ceramics part-time.
