After becoming a finalist in the 2018 Shed of the Year Budget Category with the under 500 pounds "Yurt Locker" the next project was a Summerhouse with a bigger budget on a fresh plot.
From the start the design incorporated living trees into the structure including an encompassing circle of willows to eventually be interwoven so that in time the summer house will be completely hidden. The willows are edged by wild primroses, snowdrops and bluebells in a bed of pine cones. Shaded within is a roughly octagonal summerhouse approached by a porch which is quiet place to sit and observe the local wildlife. From the porch you need to squeeze between willows growing up through the deck into a single inner room. This room contains a swing seat protected by a mosquito net which has become a popular place to read and snooze.
We are visited by busy Bees from nearby Foxgloves, Honeysuckles and Lavenders so to make them feel welcome details such as lights and cushions are Bee themed.
The Willows was designed and built entirely by myself from scratch using only hand tools - apart from my power drill.
