It's a small playhouse built for my twin boys Hugo & Ralph. It's built from mostly reclaimed / salvaged materials, and despite them both being only three and a half years old, it has so far represented a great Father / Son(s) project. The door and floors are made from old scaffold boards, with the frame essentially old fence posts. The in-fill panels are cement board, and the roof tiles are hand made clay tiles picked up from a salvage yard at less than £100 for the whole roof. The roof structure has to be strong, enough for 1/2 ton of roof tiles, so some research was required into building a roof structure capable of supporting the load.
It started as a sketch in February 2017, after being inspired by the previous years Shed of Year show, in particular the 2016 winner who created the most amazing budget shed. I realised that money does not need to be a barrier - nor does competence as I am not a professional carpenter or builder, merely a desk bound Engineer who loves a bit of DIY.
