We own a dental practice and IT/media business and decided to start making lab work from home. Having used every last inch of space in the house, we looked to our large log-cabin-style shed, full of junk, with dreams of what it could be! The junk is gone and the first 1m is still shed with a 'dirty' workbench, but the rest of the shed is now a fully insulated clean laboratory, with double glazing and under-floor heating. There's a clean workbench with dental lab kit at one end and an antistatic IT work area at the other. Best of all, it overlooks the tortoise enclosure!
The shed was new in about 2015, built to replace a seriously dilapidated shed half the size. Given the cost of fully insulating and fitting out the shed, we decided to give it a coat of long-lasting exterior varnish (but I won't mention the brand!) which matched the colour of the wood-effect uPVC windows. We had electricity professionally installed in the shed a few years ago, but we did the rest of the work ourselves. I shoot videos of computer builds and other IT projects in the lab on my 'Patrick Unique Tech Boutique' channel.
