'Shed and Son' is made of cedar boarding, cedar shingles, copper guttering and an oak door. Inside it has cheaper wooden cladding and high level south facing windows to maximise the light. The floor was stained with a fetching shade of tea - PG, not Earl Grey unfortunately. Carrying on the 'tea' theme, the roof has a subtle Japanese-teahouse-style upward curve at the front.
Shed and Son had to be fitted into an awkward space at the end of our garden between two neighbouring sheds. The space had a small dog-leg so it wasn't even square. Guttering was diverted from one neighbour's shed into ours and out the other side so Shed and Son could be keyed in. A rather fetching small door complete with natty semicircular (gutter- shaped) wooden tool-on-a-stick had to be inserted into one side so the other neighbour's gutter can be cleaned out regularly to prevent flooding. To keep the inner view of the lovely shingles, we didnt lay roofing felt and, to date, they have never leaked.
'Son of Shed' is Shed's guilty secret (he's a bit of a wimp really). Designed for dirty gardening tools and mucky pots of paint 'Son' was built into the dog leg with a door that is hardly noticeable because the cedar boarding from Shed was taken straight across it and a barely visible wooden latch added. This latch is attached to a wooden internal locking device that could double up as a toilet roll holder should we ever decide to clean it out and put a camping loo in there for elderly relatives who can't manage our stairs.
