It's big! 8m long x 5m wide x 4m high. It is unique! I designed and built it myself using post and beam construction held together with hand cut mortice and tenons each pegged with a green oak peg. The walls are clad with board and batten in cedar and the roof is double skin steel and insulation. It is a clerestory design to provide light without taking valuable wall space for tool storage. There is a separate timber store at the back for the same reason.
The workshop took 2 months to get planning permission and 6 months to build. It cost nearly £11k in materials including power and lighting circuits. This is about a third of what I was quoted to have it built professionally. I had invaluable advice and help from my wife and friends to erect the shed and fit the roof. The planning officer and local town council were also very supportive. It is a good idea to consult them before applying for planning permission.
