It was inspired by a visit to Castle Coch in South Wales and is designed to provide an atmospheric retreat of black & white timber on a stone base, with stained glass windows, reclaimed church furniture & hangings & flower stencilled walls. Steps lead down into an underground shell grotto, presided over by the Green Man
The design evolved during the build, over the winter of 2012/13, and used 2 tons of reclaimed stone(a Christmas present from my wife), timber and cedar shingles. It is built onto the front of an old underground air raid shelter, which we have developed into a grotto with shell mosaics on the walls & ceiling. The Gothic theme is continued by the view through the summerhouse windows of a 'ruin' I built the previous year.
