    Shed Features

Andrew's shed is a private library which has taken his lifetime to accumulate. It contains (we think) 12,000 books nearly all catalogued and shelved with quirky artifacts (including a bookshop plastic bag collection) and other amazing collections. It has an incredible collection of bird books and bird ephemera (talking birds included) as Andrew is a writer of books on extinct and Hawaiian birds. The books have travelled from Australia to London to Australia and now back to London into this purpose built Library each time being added to - in fact every day being added to! The house is also full of books. The collections include an entire bookcase on JFK ! Also massive art and photography collections, signed first edition novels, military history, extinct animals, horse racing, Australiana etc etc the list goes on and on. The Library shed is a retreat, a place of reading and contemplation, a place to write and a place to birdwatch. We have many bird feeders hanging from the arbour outside and we see ring necked parakeets, jays, loads of tits, green finches and gold finches as well as the usual blackbirds and sparrows. The rest of the family is only allowed in accompanied by Andrew!!! Other items in the Library Shed are all the victorian bits and pieces we found when digging the foundations - china dolls, Bovril bottles and a Toby jug as well as things collected from travels around the world - it is a unique space and we love it.

    Other Shed info

We cleared the garden for the build and dug the foundations, finding all sorts of Victorian and wartime artefacts, which are stored int he shed too- it was built by professionals and is an eco building but it is the contents that make it special.
