Hand Made shed from Recycled "Skip" wood. Brick floor, Green roof, Recycled four panelled doors.
I made this shed from recycled materials. The wood was from skips and the brick floor was recycled from building renovations in local streets. I created this shed "Made out of old doors" because this was a common way to build a shed on allotments in the 1960-1970's. The shed is basically three doors long and two doors wide. The front gable has a bamboo "Bee Hotel" infill which is frequented by solitary bees like leafcutters who lay eggs in the holes. This year over 80 holes were filled in by bees laying eggs. The green roof has a mixture of native clay grasses and wildflowers, which gives it a rugged look with dashes of colour from poppies etc. that grew last summer. The floor is made from recycled red bricks laid on sand as we are not allowed to create a concrete base on our allotment. There is an inbuilt rain gutter that flows down a "stone chain" into watering cans. The inside of the shed is filled with vintage allotment tools and historic items found on the allotment. There is a collection of vulcanite bottle stoppers dating back to early 1900's as well as bottles found in the allotment dating back as far as c.1880. The inside has a feel of an old apothecary with herbs, barley and garlic hanging from the ceiling. Wildflower seeds are kept in jam jars labelled with bygone Grocer merchants which once were local shops. .
