    Shed Features

This shed was designed by us and built collaboratively with our joiner neighbour Graeme during the 2020 lockdown. The shed is designed to be a multi-use space, for storage, working on crafts and socialising. As the coronavirus lockdown took hold, we ensured the space could be flexible enough for using it as a home office - providing power and lighting, insulation in the walls, floor and roof and two types of working areas; a workbench at 900mm and a fold down desk at 750mm. It is built on the footprint of the former shed (which was falling apart when we purchased our house) We looked at barn-type sheds for inspiration and were particularly inspired by Derek Jarmans Prospect Cottage for the colour scheme. The shed is clad in black stained Douglas Fir boards, with handmade yellow-framed windows. The floor is covered with orange linoleum and internal walls are finished with exposed birch-faced plywood. We aimed for most materials to be natural (rather than plastics) so that the build was sustainable. We have limited DIY experience, so building the shed was a learning kerb.
