The shed was built over a period of 2 years as a rehabilitation project after my major cancer operation ( rectal and prostate). It is designed to be used as an art studio and also music recording studio. Additionally it includes a chill out space, an infra-red sauna and a self contained home office. It was built entirely by myself.
Constructed over two levels on a concrete base laid by me in a difficult to acces plot down several flights of steps. It is constructed from 4x2 timber using a technique that includes very robust timber girders constructed from double 4x2 with vertical inserts of 4x2 offcuts. This means that no weight is Bourne by any of the uPVC glazing units. The glazing units were bought as second hand or mis-measures to keep the cost down. The walls are insulated with breathable membranes between the external OSB boards and internal plasterboard. The exterior is fully clad using verital tongue and groove shadow gap boards. he visible elevations are all secret nailed to create a tidy appearance. The roof is constructed from 6x2 and 4x2 noggins as a lattice with 18mm OSB board on top covered in rubber. The lower part of the shed is constructed from a combination of second hand thermal blocks and 4x2 timber/ clad walls. All the interior walls are rendered with plaster ( rough contoured surface) and painted. The ceiling is novel in that in order to save cost, only the perimeter was boarded. The inner sections are insulated with membrane covering, which is hidden by a beautifully sewn together patchwork of hot air balloon fabric behind which is LED lighting. It gives the effect seen at night at a hot air ballon night glow festival.
