Concerned with the looming climate crisis and inspired by the book "How Bad are Bananas?", I set out to prove even exotic fruits can be produced off-grid in the UK in a Carbon Neutral way. Accordingly I built the Banana Shed as a Cabin/Workshop with an attached tiny passive solar-heated Banana Hot House. The Hot House is populated with Dwarf Cavendish Banana plants that I am hoping will bear fruit in time - as long as I can find a way to manage the low overnight temperatures. The Banana Shed is an upcycled evolution of my Yurt Locker 2018 entry and shares many of the same structural features such as the octagonal shape and spiraling ceiling. My lockdown project in 2021 was to add bark cladding, a thatched roof and a Banana Hot House on the outside and convert it to a cabin/workshop on the inside.
The Banana Shed is an entirely one-off design and build from scratch by myself using readily available DIY store components.
