Built during lockdown using whatever materials we could get our hands on and based on a rough sketch my wife quickly drew in a notepad, the Haar Hut is our first ever wooden build. Totally DIY by a pair of absolute clueless amateurs to create a space we could meet friends comfortably and safely during Covid restrictions, without dying from exposure from the bitter Scottish weather.
The build consists of two wings - the outdoor kitchen and sitting area. The sitting area is fully wired and includes a cinema projector and screen.
The kitchen features a Big Green Egg BBQ and a portable electric induction hob. We have used it to host BBQs, Sunday roasts… we even cooked the Christmas Turkey out there last year.! We bake bread, make pizza - you name it - it’s all cooked in the Haar Hut.
The living area has been used for summer parties, winter fondue evenings, a Christmas grotto for the kids and cinema nights, as well as serving as extra studio space for my illustrator wife to use too. It gets the best light in the morning - the perfect coffee and sketching spot.
The interior style was influenced by Scandinavian log cabins, mixed with Moroccan textiles we picked up on holiday.
We love it and pat ourselves on the back all the time for creating something that hasn’t fallen down yet :)
