Shed Features

Designed by myself as a completely flexible and adaptable space with purpose built modular furniture to facilitate multiple uses when required, including studio, office, workshop, gym, games room, bedroom and living quarters.

The building was designed to blend harmoniously with the agricultural landscape and to maximise the views to the north.

Other Shed info

A replacement shed for a 30 year old structure on its last legs built by a previous owner. Designed by myself to be fully self built with a timber frame and no need for trades with the exception of an electrician. Everything was dug and built by hand with no use of heavy machinery, as much as I lived to regret this! The timber frame structure has been fully filled with eco friendly and flame retardant insulation to keep the building comfortable throughout the year. The interior has been clad entirely in birch plywood and was designed around standard sheet sizes to minimise waste. Externally the building has been entirely clad in vertical siberian larch which fully envelopes the walls and roof (including a hidden gutter) to reflect the agricultural context to the rear. The larch cladding does not require any treatment and has already weathered to a natural silver colour which helps soften the building into the landscape.

The playful modular furniture has again been designed around standard plywood sheet sizes and can be easily repositioned and endlessly adapted to form a variety of different set ups including shelving, seating, beds, desks, tables etc.
