Halvana cottage was once the headquarters of the mining operations on Bodmin Moor. When mining ceased in 1830 it was sold to the Forestry commission. The shed was formally a tractor shed and rest room for the forest workers. We've used it for our children's parties and had Christmas in there during COVID. Being on Bodmin moor it bares the brunt of the weather and was looking rather tumbled down so last year we replaced the wood cladding, added a tin roof and new windows. We had so many positive comments from passing walkers so we kept going. We replaced the washroom with a sink made from a river boulder and build a kitchenette from scaffold boards. The interior walls are lined with pallets and I made curtains from coffee sacks. There's a double bed and we regularly have guests staying and it has been used for photo shoots. We added a mezzanine with a window in the trees to watch the woodpeckers
We used the original frame and collected pallets from all around. We used fallen pine trees from the forest as supports and the sink is carved from a river boulder. The water comes from a spring in the meadow. We use LPG gas for cooking. It's heated by a woodburner made by a local man. It's completely secluded down a forest track surrounded by forest.
