The Hobbit House is a unique, hand built hideaway at the bottom of our garden. After walking through a secret door, leading you onto a secluded garden is our own little sanctuary. It comprises of a barrel rolled ceiling, scaffold board decking to the front. Front face clad with Canadian cedar incorporating a small round leaded window. The door is clad with the same cedar and blends in with the rest. Inside has an ordinary L-shaped couch that can be turned into a bed with some clever MDF joinery made by myself, all hidden away. There is a fire place, and a hand built kitchen area complete with 2 pence piece worktop. The roof is papered with wooden effect vinyl. A small tv finishes it. It's special to me as I work for myself and am constantly either at work, pricing jobs, doing paper wort etc and this little house is my 'getaway place'! we also have a rule of NO MOBILE PHONES or TABLETS!! ;-)
Its all built with materials anyone can buy from their local builder supply and reclamation yard. We used to have chickens in the very same place and an old wood store left by the previous owner. I've managed to save some of the materials from this to build parts of it. I've literally built it over weekends and any spare days I had. To create the curve on the walls I had to drive down to my Dads Army barracks in Manchester to be able to use the large flat floor in one of the hangers to form the curve using a simple nail and baton technique. I would LOVE for this to be my new business venture and would love to build these everywhere. My day to day job can be very stressful and the enjoyment ive had out of it can only make my life easier!
We haven't made a video for youtube as we'd love to reveal it on Shed of the year!!!
