The Squirrel Bar is a very special place, both to us and our friends. The two of us spend such a lot of time relaxing in there, listening to music either on the Sonos speakers or vinyl through the vintage Heybrook HB1s. We can watch concerts on the 6 foot wide screen (it's just like being there!) or films and numerous tv channels.
The seating is comfortable and we have had as many as ten people in there. It is equipped with a fridge for cold drinks and a bar to serve from.
The decor is often a source of fascination for visitors. We have a music corner which has a record deck and pictures of various popstars including several of the Beatles. Another corner is for flying related decor with photos and paintings of Spitfires.
There is a round mirror on the ceiling which is nearly 100 years old and, for obvious reasons has the inscription surrounding it of 'PINK CHAMPAGNE ON ICE' from the Eagles song ‘Hotel California’. We haven't got any pink champagne though...perhaps we should LOL!
The walls and some of the ceiling are full of pictures and photos collected over the years, mementos of holidays and the past. The main subject of ornaments, cushions and pictures is, for obvious reasons, squirrels.
There are over 40 but, as our grandchildren do, you will have to come and count them for yourself! The lighting is spectacular when the sun goes down. It includes old fashioned lava lamps, illuminated glass shelving round the bar area, disco lights which can cover the whole ceiling, neon signs and colour changing uplighting on the supports of the pergola outside.
During Covid lockdown we decided to insulate a 16' x 10' shed as a project and convert it into a bar. The name came about as we have squirrels visiting the garden for peanuts.
They haven't popped in for a pint yet but you never know! In the winter it's warm and cosy due to a 'lookalike' wood burner fan heater and during the summer the bi fold doors open up the entire front and the sun sail can be put up over the decking providing shade. We added wooden decking and a paved pergola with raised beds outside.
