Shed Features

Our shed is a true self-build project, designed and built by my husband over the course of more than a year. It was created to support our dream of living more creatively and sustainably in the Somerset countryside. Although still a work in progress, it already serves as my potting shed and growing space, where I raise hundreds of vegetable, herb and flower seedlings for our self-serve plant stand.

It is a place of inspiration, learning and connection with nature. Built with practicality and beauty in mind, the shed is insulated, filled with natural light and designed to evolve alongside our changing needs. Inside, we have also created a small pantry where we store our homemade wines, elderflower champagne and seasonal preserves made from produce grown in our own garden.

It is much more than a storage space – it is the heart of our garden projects and a reflection of our family's creativity, self-sufficiency and determination.

This has been a genuine labour of love. We chose to build it ourselves rather than buy a ready-made structure, allowing us to create a space perfectly suited to our lifestyle and passions. The project continues to develop as time and budget allow, and we believe that is part of its charm.

It tells the story of an ordinary family creating something extraordinary through patience, resourcefulness and hard work. The shed has already become an important part of our daily life – from sowing seeds and organising the plant stand to storing the harvest from our garden and making homemade preserves. It is a space where creativity and practicality meet, celebrating a slower and more intentional way of living.

We hope it inspires others to embrace the idea that a dream garden building does not have to be finished to be meaningful.
