    Shed Features

WSD were commissioned by an author and children's book illustrator to design and build a working space for him at the end of his garden.

We created a space that satisfied all the client's functional needs on the inside, while reflecting some aspects of the authors work on the outside. The project took the form of a fairy-tale hut at the bottom of his garden.

The project used a offset pitch roof, with a north facing skylight for even daylight over the illustration desk. We made use of the main gable-end wall by installing bespoke shelving that playfully cuts in and out around the wood burning stove.

We used a material palette that reflected 'sheddiness' of the project, using inexpensive OSB and pine T&G on the interior, with cedar shingles and coppices on the exterior. The materials were resilient and un-fussy, complementing the role of the shed as a place of changing ideas and production.
