It’s a dual purpose shed that works for me, my husband and the grandkids. I wanted a summer house to catch the afternoon sun and use the furniture and bits and bobs from our downsize move. Somewhere to sit when it is too hot, too cold or too wet outside. My husband wanted a garage/workshop to fix things and keep all his tools and shed stuff. A fridge for cold drinks. An emergency generator for power cuts. So we compromised. A 12’ x 20’ wooden shed shell was bought locally to our design and customised by us to suit our needs.
The local shed company installed the shed on the base that we provided, on a larger footprint of our previous smaller shed that was packed to the rafters, and had the door and windows in the wrong place and was for us generally unusable. (We donated it to one of my sons who will get good use out of it) The shed was shared between us, the front, garden facing with 2 glazed doors was mine, approx 12’x11’, and my husband had the rear with side stable doors, no windows, approx 12’x9’. My husband and I did all the work ourselves. Once we installed the partition wall electricity was supplied as in previous shed. The ceilings and walls were insulated and then dry lined with OSB. The floor was also topped with OSB. My cabin became a home for my preloved furniture and items, including 2 chandeliers! It’s not to everyone’s taste but it is perfect for me, and guests, especially grandchildren. It’s a place to sit and enjoy the peace, watch the birds, listen to the radio or read a book. We can dine in there, be artistic or crafty. Spend special moments with the grandchildren, and they can also play on the rocking horse. Everything in there has been saved, repurposed, or reused. The contents cost nothing but are everything to me. My husband’s shed has also repurposed and reused furniture/storage items that most people would put in a skip. It has been designed by him to suit his own uses. He has also built in a heater for shed and cabin, and a generator for power cuts.
