This all started four years ago when I started to completely rebuild the wreck of a circa 1915 Living Van to provide holiday rental accommodation in our paddock . I always knew that I would need to build a separate hut to go next to the van and this is to accommodate the ablutions offices (WC & shower) and a small kitchen/ dining area. What I planned as fairly basic hut soon became much more detailed purely through the sheer love of what I was creating. Many of the components such as the railway sleeper foundation base, salvaged joinery and farmyard accoutrements came from some very good friends. It was with their contributions and much encouragement from them and my wife that the resulting eccentricities of my design has been realised.
Much of the joy of building the hut has been in using up so many items I’ve had lying around the place for years; all those ‘Ooh this might come in useful one day’ things. I have carried out all of the work myself with the exception of the second fix electrics. Anyone staying at ‘Drovers Halt’ will be able to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the countryside and get in touch with their inner Arthur Ransome or Enid Blyton!
