Our son struggles to be left with babysitters and doesn’t cope with people coming into the house. We built The Blackberry Arms as a way of having a space we can socialise with friends and family in whilst not causing additional distress to our son. Having a child with additional needs is hard and this enables us to have fun and let our hair down and keep our son happy.
We had friends help us build the cabin then we did all the painting and decor ourselves. We collected pub memorabilia from visits to antiques and auction houses. I made all the pictures and vinyl decals and signs myself. We added upholstery to a basic bench set after we’d painted it. Aside from the cabin cost everything else we’ve done as cheaply as we can ourselves. Things like the bench set were £50 as a catalogue return as the original table was damaged.
