During the Covid lockdowns, I built my own she shed and art workshop as a creative escape and personal sanctuary. Using two old sheds already on the property (the only thing I originally bought) as the foundation, I repurposed them with recycled materials and whatever I could find around the house.
The structure is a true patchwork of resourcefulness and imagination. Insulation was sourced for free from a local resource centre for schools, and an old piece of glass became a makeshift window, letting in just enough natural light. For the walls, I used large plastic Ikea advertisement signs, salvaged and given new purpose. The result is a vibrant, eclectic space that perfectly reflects the creative energy it houses. A designer haven for creative pursuits made for free!
Inside, I’ve carved out areas for painting, sewing, drawing, and even pottery. It’s also my favorite place to relax with a book or sketch custom dog portraits, something I’ve grown especially fond of.
Every corner holds a story, a memory of its making, and the satisfaction of building something by hand during a time of global uncertainty. My she shed is more than a workspace—it’s a symbol of resilience, creativity, and the joy of making something meaningful from what others might overlook.
