    Shed Features

We moved into our house in September 2021 and from that moment, the shed was destined to be a pub in my eyes. After around 3 and a half years of renovating, and a lot of efforts to persuade my wife, the dream became a reality and the Grateful Goose was born! The aim was to create the feeling of an Old English pub. After extensive research, and hundreds of paint samples we came across Cuprinol which blew competitors out the water. We wanted the exterior of the pub to be discreet but classy, and the Rich Oak really has achieved this. The use of Harvest Brown inside provided the traditional pub aesthetic which we are absolutely delighted with. We wanted to ensure that there was a burst of colour and my wife fell in love with the Sage which is a show stopping feature as soon as you enter the pub. From watching football, hosting family darts tournaments or having parties, the Grateful Goose always delivers! It is a great space for hosting friends, family and colleagues and is even soundproofed so no complaints from the neighbours when the karaoke comes out! The Grateful Goose is great for the football and looking forward to watching the Rugby in there over the summer. We had a Eurovision night which was a blast! We live close to Heaton Park and have grand plans to host friends for Oasis pre-party and maybe even hear the concert from the Goose We have made efforts to ensure the pub is accessible. If we were lucky enough to win, we would use the winnings to put more measures in place to ensure that my father who is in a wheelchair, can safely access. Cuprinol has helped me achieve my dream and hopefully our pub is considered worthy of the ‘Shed of the Year’

    Other Shed info

We had close local family friends who helped with the build. A father and son aged 60 and 85 - they were excellent! My wife and I did a lot of the work ourselves and all of the painting!! We sourced carpets from a local supplier and have sought to use local businesses throughout. We made the cushions ourselves with a local seamstress making the curtains. We are delighted with how it has turned out!

We received great support from my wife’s parents who dedicated their time changing the roof felt and a doing a lot of garden work!
